Hello everyone,
I survived the first week of school here at IU. It wasn't that bad, but there is definitely a transition from being an undergraduate to a graduate. I love it. I love that I have the chance to concentrate solely on music with nothing holding me back. I am determined to excel in this field, and that's what's exciting to me. I really have a passion for music that I am discovering more every day. I love the subject matter in my classes. I actually love Theory, and History, as well as my Opera Literature class, and of course, I look forward to lessons every Monday and Wednesday. I'm truly happy here, and so grateful to be where I am in life.
I hope you are all well. I've heard Arizona is having some good weather lately. I miss monsoon season, but it rains here all the time. It's very humid. I went running the other night, and was just drenched from the moisture in the air. It's sure been nice for my skin, and good for the throat!
Singing is coming along great. I'm learning to make better sounds more efficiently. It's incredible what happens when you figure out how to breathe correctly. :) At times it's frustrating, but I have to learn to give it time, and be more patient with myself. I have an important audition tonight called a "cattle call". This term is used to describe a mass audition. All the students who are interested in the operas here, audition Thurs, Fri, and Sat this weekend. Mine is tonight between 8-9pm. I'm singing my signature piece, "Voi che sapete". As much as I love Cherubino, it will sure be nice to learn some other arias and roles.
Life keeps going, and we've just got to keep up with everything and not forget to enjoy ourselves along the way. This life is a wonderful journey, not a contest. I've been discovering this.
That's my little update. Take care, and don't be shy. I'm only a email or call away. I wish you all well in your busy lives, and am confident we will all experience wonderful things this semester. Thank you for your examples, and support.
Much love,
Angela
